Through Comprehensive Community Planning we break each area down into individual sectors, the following areas are the sectors involved in Snaw'Naw'As CCP

Through Comprehensive Community Planning we identify challenges in each sector of the CCP, not only do we assist in the best way possible to recognize issues, needs & concerns but we build solutions that are positive, proactive, and healthy.
We as a community come together for the betterment of today’s world, walking in the path built yesterday and opening the door to the future. At this workshop we’ve outline a few key issues in the different sectors, and helped by providing solutions to overcome the challenges:
Leadership/Administration
- More healthy role models
- More stuff for kids and teens to become healthy role models
- Be open to new ideas
- More organized when it comes to appointments
- More communication between band members and housing committee
- Better organized appointments
- Ask band members what they would like to see
- Band mismanagement of funding, need to apologize to the membership, also membership needs to forgive them also
- Hold leadership and administration accountable and understanding that these people work for us.
- NFN members grassroots that’s us at the band office, Chief & Council, Treaty Office, Education, Health etc.
- Non judgmental leadership
- Non judgmental workers in the band office
- Membership has to be updated and people who shouldn’t be on our band list who were not voted into Snaw’Naw’As shouldn’t be on our list, take back our power
- Treaty wastes too much money, could be spent in a more better and positive to help support cultural gatherings etc. that includes all members not just chosen people - all should get jackets
Youth / Elders
- Youth need to be respected and given services be it recreation, education, transportation, cultural education
- More gatherings and circles etc. pow wows, speakers for them
- Communications between them- language and stories
- Better gym equipment
- More sports
- More get togethers
- More elder, teen, kids, young parent get togethers
- Teachings
- Bring elders and youth together
- Let elders use their voice and share their teachings with the youth as opposed to the limits put on them at the elders gatherings today
Environment / Resources
- More recycle boxes around reserve
- Help elders if needed to keep yard or home clean
- Make contests for most clean yards or areas (makes it more fun for kids)
- Help and ideas outside our communities for clean and quality reserve
- Land has to be given, first respect to NFN not non band members who got on the list because of nepotism, take back our rights
- Water and sewer needs to be improved since sewer has gone in lots of sickness has hit many people from chlorinated water
- Progress or regress?
- Need a clean up crew to get rid of garbage in our yards
Emergency Services
- Need emergency practice get together in case of earthquake or if the island sinks
- Classes to practice and learn first aid
- Need an emergency services team in our community
Lands / Infrastructure
- A workshop on lands and infrastructure so we as a whole, understand the processes of how much is involved
- Our newer homes need to be better insulated for coolness in summer & heat in the winter
Arts / Culture
- This is vastly neglected
- Our artists need exposure and support from chief and council, band manager
- More cultural gatherings need to be held in our community
- Build positive environment, less finger pointing at negative by others who don’t offer positive words
- Artists are being discluded from any resources
- This needs support and this should be able to be applied for with the right people working in our administration and chief and council
- More drumming and singing
- More traditional teachings
- Traditional arts - being shown how to do art
- Speak Hul’q’umi’num
- Not enough being trained in our Hul’q’umi’num language
Economic Development
- Gas stations?
- Grocery stores
- Tim Horton’s (Timmys)
- Economic development support for our artists, painters, carvers, drummers - have asked for 20 years, also to pass on to our future
- More / better campsite development
- Pavement
- Employment
- Larger office
- Starbucks for investment / income and revenue for reserve
Social Development
- More counseling and healing circles / workshops - healthy relationships
- More help for special needs
- Better programs for special needs
- Transportation for single parents / disability need to be made available to NFN - not just an open account to administration / chief and council
- Social workers to be trained to handle disability concerns, crises, single parents etc. as opposed to having a qualified social worker to be a financial advisor
- Communications from chief and council, band manager, fisheries, S.A., alcohol and drug counselors, education etc.
- More children’s services for young parents and single parents
- Need more support
Health
- More safety needs to be put on highway for pedestrians & school students
- Too much tragedy over the years and is increasing - provincial and municipalities need to be accountable
- Need an outside A & D worker
- Elders and people on disability need home care
- Need a crises home on reserve with no judgment to our families
- More healthy family get togethers
- Family game night
- Talent show
- Family tree
- Whole community reunion
- Dinner at least once a year, every year
- Need healthy teen / women’s / men’s / and elders groups
- Have more activities rather than dinner and movie
- Pow wow practices
- Or traveling to longhouses
- Need more support from paid CHR and drug and alcohol worker on reserve
- Too much lacking in CHR and NNADAP, must use best of resources available
- Need self help seminars and workshops
- Clean up our band membership list
- Some people are on there without our permission or vote
- But put on there and tend to be arrogant, disrespectful to our nation
- More open band meetings
- More of a health committee
- More elder care
- Workshops for self awareness
- More involvement
Education
- transportation for all levels of education, membership chip in to pay for gas monies etc.
- not enough training programs for the community
- need education services that can better communicate with our youth
- better transportation for students and young adults
- have a Hul'q'umi'num' school for our children
- need more compassionate and more culturally aware educational worker, not someone based on nepotism.
- children should not feel like reserve school students in this day and age
- we need a worker from our own nation
