Snaw'Naw'As Vision
The Snaw'naw'as First Nation was in search of support to establish a process of community involvement that will lead to a community-based “Vision” (establishing the Nation's overarching goals) as a first and distinct step in developing a Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP). We've secured funding from the BC Capacity Initiative to fulfill this process, and have outlined the following as indicators of successfully achieving the results:
Deliverables of this project are:
- Development of a community-based vision for consideration and ratification by Chief and Council
- Capacity building of one member (Planning Coordinator) of the Nation in community planning
- Capacity building of the overall Nation membership in the concept of community planning
In 2009 we've identified 2 coordinators of the CCP process Sarah Sampson & Lawrence Mitchell, who will develop materials and strategies alongside a consultant Eric Blueshke, these 3 individuals will work in conjunction to create framework documents & surveys, conduct door to door surveys, host a forum/workshop, develop capacity within the area of Community Planning, build nation's capacity in Community Planning, and have a Vision Statement.
Sarah & Lawrence have attended two workshops hosted by Indian Northern Affairs Canada - Orientation to Comprehensive Community Planning, and Communications Workshop; throughout these workshops Sarah & Lawrence gained the necessary understanding about the background of CCP, the benefits of community planning, the core concepts of planning, the best practices of community planning, networking with other nations, and how to produce more effective communications.
